The beautiful ruffed grouse has plumage that reflects its’ surroundings making these birds hard to see. In fact, you can be walking by a flock of them and only realize they were there by the ‘explosion’ of their wings flapping in the brush and trees. Therefore, it is very unusual to see this ruffed grouse out in the open as I did.
